The Environmental Working Group’s 2026 Shopper Guide to Pesticides in Produce raised concerns over dangerous forever chemicals.
The Dirty Dozen list included spinach, strawberries, and apples as highly contaminated with pesticides this year.
PFAS chemicals found in the produce can cause severe health implications, especially for children who are most vulnerable.
The Environmental Working Group has serious concerns which have been raised in their 2026 Shopper Guide to Pesticides in Produce. Practically 96 percent of Dirty Dozen samples contained pesticides – and, this time, it was official that dangerous so-called forever chemicals were contained.
The Dirty Dozen List
The Environmental Working Group or EWG has also provided its annual Shopper Guide to Pesticides in Produce to help American consumers make better and healthier choices on buying groceries since 2004.
The List Of 2026 Was Constructed Out Of Massive Data
The report 2026 analyzed 54,344 sample produce of 47 fruits and vegetables depending on the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture pesticide residue testing statistics, and was the largest dataset that EWG had ever used.

Spinach Took The Crown Of The Pollutants
The list this year has spinach at the top, since it was identified to contain the highest amount of pesticides per pound compared with any other kind of produce and had occurred with an average of four or more pesticides per sample.
The Whole 2026 Dirty Dozen Revealed
Spinach, kales, collard and mustard greens, strawberries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, cherries, apples, blackberries, pears, potatoes, and blueberries are included in the list of this year, which are known as highly contaminated with pesticides.
First Time Forever Chemicals Found

The first time this was ever reported was 63% of all samples of the Dirty Dozen produce contained the forever chemicals, PFAS. Their molecular bonds may take years, decades, or even centuries before they break.
Fludioxonil Was The Pesticide That Was Most Identified
PFAS fungicide fludioxonil had the highest prevalence rate in 2026 through all the fruits and veggies tested, having been detected in 14% of the total sample of all the tested produce and nearly 90% of all the peaches and plums.
PFAS Cause Severe Health Implications
According to reports by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, PFAS chemicals have led to cancer, obesity, thyroid disease, elevated cholesterol, low fertility, liver damage, destruction of immune system and interference of hormones in humans.
It Is The Children Who Are In The Greatest Danger
The American Academy of Pediatrics states that children, even prenatally, are highly vulnerable to pesticide contaminants, as their bodies process these chemicals much slower than adults, resulting in serious long-term health issues.
The Clean Fifteen Provides Comparatively Safer Substitutes
About 60 percent of the sample Clean Fifteen produce has no pesticide residue. This list was less risky as pineapple, sweet corn, avocados were added followed by adding onions, asparagus, cabbage, papayas, watermelon, mangoes and bananas.
Ask Experts: Keep on Eating Your Fruits and Veggies
Experts in health and EWG concur -fruits and vegetables are fundamental in good health. Choose Clean Fifteen items often, buy organic Dirty Dozen when necessary, and wash products regularly.
