Down in Texas, BBQ is a big deal. Lines for BBQ go out the door in East Austin, home of Franklin’s Barbecue.
With a 4.5/5 star rating on Yelp and ribs that “just fall off the bone,”
Franklin’s tries to maintain peace by keeping its customers in line… or at least they did before Obama showed up.After giving a speech at the Paramount Theatre Thursday afternoon, President Barack Obama made his way to the restaurant, his entourage in tow. He had hinted at his BBQ craving earlier in the day, saying, “Everyone knows I love Austin, Texas. I love the barbecue,” according to Culture Map Austin.
Apparently the barbecue at Franklin’s is up to presidential standards.
Franklin’s Barbecue was named the best BBQ joint in Texas by Texas Monthly and Bon Appetit.
As Obama entered to get the “best barbecue in the country,” he quickly jumped to the front of the line — a line that has the tendency to draw out over five hours, according to Yelp.
“I know this is a long line. I feel real bad, but — I’m gonna cut,” Obama said, according to a pool report from the Austin American-Statesman.
After calming down Austin’s BBQ fans, Obama left the building. Perhaps he has set a trend for president’s to come. No cutting to the front of the line… unless you’re the leader of the free world.
