One teenager from Los Angeles challenged Islamophobia on Facebook and reached more than just a few mutual friends. Marwa Balkar posted a photo of herself with a peace sign symbol on her shirt in response to comments made by Donald Trump regarding the identification Muslims in America.
She said, “Dear @realdonaldtrump, My name is Marwa, and I am a Muslim. I heard you wanted us to start wearing ID badges, so I decided to choose one for myself.”
The post goes on to invite Trump to get a glimpse at her everyday life of school, volunteering and working. She added, “Maybe then you’ll see that me being Muslim doesn’t make me any less American than you are. Maybe if you walk in my footsteps, you can see that I am not any less human than you are.”
