  • Dan Rather said recently that we don’t really live in a post truth world, saying “The reality is […] if we did, almost every aspect of modern society would cease to exist – immediately.” Still, Fake News has become a scourge as places like Facebook are too indiscriminate in allowing false news stories to crawl all over their website.

One such piece of fake news involved Denzel Washington switching his allegiance from Hillary Clinton to Donald Trump. We can’t stress this enough, this did not happen and Denzel is still a Clinton supporter. When questioned about this piece of fake news, Denzel Washington had some cutting and insightful words for the media. “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed, and if you do read the newspaper, you’re misinformed.”, said the star who was there to promote his August Wilson adaptation Fences. Denzel continued to discuss how speed over quality helped create this crisis:“We live in a society now where it’s just first. Who cares? Get it out there- we don’t care who it hurts, we don’t care who we destroy, we don’t care if it’s true. Just say it, sell it.” These are stirring words, that we can only hope can make a difference, however small, as the media considers telling insightful and honest to counter all the ones from fake websites popping across the internet.
