So A Cell Phone Didn’t Blow Up Next To Cee-Lo’s Head I Guess

  • A clip this week went viral where we saw a cell phone explode next to Cee-Lo Green’s head, knocking out the rapper turned soul singer in his studio. Well, in the spirit of the awful era we’re living in I guess, the clip turned out to be fake news, being a promotional clip for his new project, Gnarley Davidson.

  • We could be excited that this Gnarly Davidson business could mean the return of the mid aughts duo of Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo who gave us Gnarls Barkley, but still — what does an exploding phone have to do with anything?? Cee-Lo explained it in a clip released to Facebook.

  • A new persona!? What kind of new persona starts with a phone exploding next to someone’s head? Seems a little too real to me.

That and this is all part of a weird era, where our responses to everything is instantaneous. How dull would those Paul is Dead rumors during the Beatles era be if Paul McCartney had to get on YouTube and prove them wrong? On the other hand— why would you release a fake video of a cell phone exploding near your head!? That’s way too realistic an accident. Have a demon take you away or something.

So what did you think of this stunt? Are you excited for what may be the new Gnarls Barkley project? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
