  • The internet is up in arms over an article published to Buzzfeed where a man named Robbie pronounces his love for his wife’s curves — in a way, however that’s odd and performative, where he seems to frame himself as some kind of daring figure for loving his wife’s body the way it is. In a now viral Instagram, he says —

“Her shape and size won’t be the one featured on the cover of Cosmopolitan but it’s the one featured in my life and in my heart. There’s nothing sexier to me than a woman who is both curvy and confident; this gorgeous girl I married fills out every inch of her jeans and is still the most beautiful one in the room.”

People on the internet are split — who’s being the bigger weirdo, the guy, for writing as if loving his wife’s body is some kind of anomaly — or Buzzfeed for writing about him as if he’s some kind of inspiring hero? Or are both weird? And what’s the girlfriend’s opinion about all of this? Mysteries, mysteries. I don’t know, let’s go read some Twitter jokes about it!

  • In any case, I think the whole thing is odd. By discussing this woman’s body in this way, is the guy in a sense implying it’s not traditionally found attractive? Maybe in the media, but plenty and plenty and plenty of people would correctly find this extremely attractive woman attractive. Calling it out seems backhanded and weird. Plus, it’s not his body to be positive about.

I dunno, they seem sweet together though, so what do I know.
