  • Robots are finally taking our jobs. Which is good because folks, I am getting tired. Remember Sophia the robot? Well, a similar robot named Erica (who has one of the most advanced artificial speech systems in the world) is about to take over someone’s job in Japan. What’s the job this robot is stealing from a hardworking human? A news anchor position.

That’s right. A real human being is being replaced with a fake human being. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be replaced by a robot.

The creator of Erica, Dr. Ishiguro has been trying to get her on TV since 2014. Well, didn’t he luck out, because this isn’t just a TV appearance… it’s a full-time job. Are they paying her? Speaking of money, it comes as no surprise that Erica costs a lot of money to make. She comes from one of the highest-funded science programs in Japan. Now, it’s time for creepy facts about Erica.

Creepy Fact #1: She is can’t move her arms but she can figure out where a sound is coming from and knows who is asking her a question.

Creepy Fact #2: She has 14 infrared sensors and face recognition technology.

Creepy Fact # 3: Erica’s creator also refers to himself as her father.

    Okay. That’s enough creepy facts.

Erica’s creator said: “Making androids is about exploring what it means to be human, examining the question of what is emotion, what is awareness, what is thinking.”
