  • British rock band, Muse, has unveiled its song, “Survival” as the anthem for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The track will be played throughout the July 27-August 12 Games, such as when athletes enter the stadium and during the lead-in to the medal ceremonies.

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy told the U.K.’s Sky News, “It’s a huge honour to have the track chosen as such a major part of the London 2012 Olympic Games.” According to the band’s website, he wrote the track “with the Olympics in mind. It’s about total conviction and pure determination to win.”

Survival is the first announced of five official songs to be commissioned by the Olympics organizers. The others, to be released throughout the summer, are expected from Dizzee Rascal, Chemical Brothers, Delphic, and Sir Elton John in collaboration with Pnau.

Since its formation in 1994, Muse has sold 15 million albums worldwide. The band is due to release its sixth studio album, The 2nd Law, in September.

The official London Olympics song is available for purchase on iTunes.
