“Twilight” is officially in talks with Lionsgate to be adapted for television. Stephanie Meyer’s cult favorite “Twilight” series was first adapted for film in 2008, starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. The three played out one of the most infamous and controversial love triangles in pop culture, between vampire Edward Cullen (Pattinson), human Bella Swan (Stewart), and werewolf Jacob Black (Lautner).
The film’s campy aesthetic and offbeat humor rapidly resonated with audiences, sparking an entire series of novels and films, and even a more recent prequel from Meyer, “Midnight Sun.” In the over a decade since the first film’s release, the most quotable moments have found new fans among Gen Z on social media.

Fans of the franchise are apprehensive about what a television revival would look like. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news of the adaptation, which Meyer is expected to executive produce, but did not confirm whether any original cast members would return to the project.
Some predict that like the upcoming “Harry Potter” adaptation at Max, the series will have an all new cast. The announcement is dividing social media, with some excited for the adaptation while others feel it is best to let the original films stand alone.

The reboot is sparking conversations about the fantasy genre. The 2000s and 2010s saw major popularity for the genre among young adults, particularly other book-to-television and film adaptations like “The Hunger Games”, “Maze Runner”, “The Vampire Diaries” and more. The genre has seen few original new projects in recent years, and fans of the genre are encouraging the internet to support newer shows on Netflix that fall into this category.

Where The “Twilight” Cast Is Now
The original cast of “Twilight” have all embarked on countless projects since the film’s initial release. Notably, Pattinson took on the infamous role of Bruce Wayne in a recent “Batman” installment, and Kristen Stewart continues to act and has delved into directing. Stewart most recently directed indie rock band Boygenius’ “The Film”. Pattinson repeatedly speaks of his distaste for the franchise, and while some are hopeful he would return, most remain doubtful.

While it is unlikely that Stewart would reprise her role as the human-turned vampire Bella Swan, some hope that she will bring her directing skills to the series.
