Hollywood held an emotionally charged ceremony this morning to honour Chadwick Boseman with a posthumous star on the Walk of Fame. Five years after his death in 2020 at age 43, the actor’s enduring impact on film and culture was acknowledged by friends, colleagues, and fans.
Boseman’s widow, Simone Ledward‑Boseman, accepted the honour on his behalf. She described her late husband as “a spiritual teacher… You lived with honour and you walked with truth.”

Among the speakers were actor-producer Michael B. Jordan, director Ryan Coogler, and actress Viola Davis—all of whom had close creative ties with Boseman. Davis, who co-starred with him in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, reflected on his presence on-set and his conversations about “the cap of success” and meaning.
Coogler, who directed the blockbuster Black Panther, called Boseman “our most incredible jewel” and emphasised the actor’s leadership, generosity, and quiet strength—even during his private battle with cancer.
Boseman earned widespread acclaim for his portrayals of notable historical figures — Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get On Up, Thurgood Marshall in Marshall — and as T’Challa/Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

At his last film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Boseman earned a posthumous Academy Award nomination for his role.
In announcing the star, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce stated it was “deeply honoured to celebrate Chadwick Boseman’s extraordinary legacy… his powerful performances and enduring impact both on and off-screen continue to inspire generations around the world.”
While many of Boseman’s roles were high-profile, what resonated with colleagues and fans alike was the ethical consistency of his life and work—he refused to separate himself from the characters he portrayed, whether a superhero or a civil-rights pioneer. This ceremony serves not only as recognition of his craft, but of the authenticity he brought to his art, even while silently fighting a terminal illness.
