The world of Westeros is heading to the big screen.

Warner Bros. is officially developing a feature film set in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe, with “Andor” and “House of Cards” writer Beau Willimon attached to the project. The Hollywood Reporter first revealed the news as part of a cover story profile on Martin.

The film is being envisioned as a mammoth, Dune-sized feature centered on Aegon’s Conquest — the story of King Aegon I Targaryen, who took Westeros with his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya approximately 300 years before the events of the original series.

In a notable twist, both HBO and the Warner Bros. film division are developing rival versions of the same story simultaneously — HBO as a possible drama series, Warner Bros. as a theatrical feature.

The TV side also has a writer in place. Mattson Tomlin, known for “The Batman 2,” has been developing the series version and recently shared a script update on X, posting a photo of two filled notebooks labeled “Conquest.”

There’s one major wildcard hanging over the project. Everything at Warner Bros. remains somewhat uncertain given the studio’s expected sale to Paramount Skydance.
