In the viral interview clip, Rife explains that he did not start working out and building a fitness regiment until later in his stand up comedy career. The comedian claimed that “no one wants to laugh at physically attractive people.”

Martin quipped back with an exaggerated version of the quote intended to showcase its absurdity. The actor sarcastically quipped that he was “too sexy to do comedy.” The “La Brea” star is known for his humorous looks into pop culture phenomenons. In the comment section, Martin’s girlfriend, “Riverdale” star Lili Reinhart, wrote “so true babe”.

Following Martin’s stitch, TikTok had a field day with Rife’s quote, with many users criticizing him.

Social Media Reactions

Fans of Martin and for-you-page followers alike had choice words for Rife. Many joked about how they felt the video made the comedian appear self-absorbed. Several young women comedians and TikTok creators are critiquing Rife’s comments particularly due to the implications they could have on female comics.

Rife has long found himself at the forefront of public criticism. The comedian once appeared on MTV’s “Wild N’ Out”, where some fans felt he got a bit too close to actress Zendaya, who was the episode’s celebrity contestant at the time. When the comedian touched her face, she appeared taken aback.

More recently, the comedian appeared on the “Stiff Socks” podcast, where he discussed his type in women. He went into minute physical detail, and insulted female anatomy. Rife, who was attracting a widespread female fanbase, now continues to reckon with being called out for alleged misogyny since this podcast appearance.
