Actor Lance Reddick, of “The Wire” and “John Wick”, Dies at 60

Actor Lance Reddick passed away at 60 years old. He died of “natural causes” according to his media representative Mia Hansen. Reddick was known for his roles in television drama “The Wire” and the “John Wick” franchise. Reddick made a name for himself in entertainment with groundbreaking roles in the 90s in shows like “New York Undercover” and “The West Wing.”

He told The Guardian in 2010 that he aspired to be a musician since his childhood growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, and fell into acting as a means to financially support himself and his family. He wound up finding a true passion for his new craft, and went on to graduate from the Yale University School of Drama. After graduation, he went on to play several memorable roles, in the shows “Lost”, “Bosch,” “Fringe”, and more recently Netflix’s “Resident Evil.” He also provided voiceovers for several successful video games, including “Horizon Zero Dawn” and the “Destiny” franchise.

The official Twitter account for the upcoming installment of the “John Wick” franchise, which comes to theaters March 24, shared a tribute to one of the franchise’s stars.

Today, fans of his work and former costars and colleagues alike mourn the loss of a friend, a talent, and in many ways, a trailblazer.

Many look back on some of Reddick’s most memorable performances, and his unique and impactful performance style.

Some recall a heartfelt anecdote that Reddick shared in a previous interview, in which he discussed his close friendship with “John Wick” costar Keanu Reeves.

Former cast and crew members from Lance’s many projects over the course of his career continue to share stories about him, and compliment his work ethic and character.

Keanu Reeves and “John Wick” director Chad Stahleski issued a joint statement on the loss Reddick, saying “We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick. He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly.”

Reddick is survived by his children Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick, as well as his wife Stephanie Reddick. According to his representative, donations in his memory may be made to momcares.org in his home city of Baltimore.
