Actress Sydney Sweeney, notably of HBO’s “Euphoria” is Variety’s latest cover star, and the actress spoke on the several lingering question marks surrounding her career and personal life. In the interview, the actress notably touched upon the viral photos she once shared from her mother’s 60th birthday party in Idaho. MAGA, or “Make America Great Again”, remains a slogan at the forefront of right-wing and Republican politics. Former U.S. President Donald Trump popularized the phrase during both his 2016 and 2020 campaigns. The Blue Lives Matter movement refers to the conservative response to the Black Lives Matter movement, which advocates for the thousands of Black American victims who perished at the hands of police brutality.
The MAGA hats instead actually read “Make 60 Great Again” in honor of Sweeney’s mother’s birthday. The actress shared photos of the party last year, quickly sparking backlash for her alleged support of her family’s conservative politics.
Now, Sweeney claims that there were “so many misinterpretations” of the viral images seen around the world at the party. The actress claimed that the partygoers wearing conservative themed clothing were not her family members, and that they wore the items to poke fun at their perception of conservatives in rural Idaho where the party was held.
Sydney Sweeney said the MAGA hats seen at her mother's birthday last August were worn by L.A. folks who "thought it would be funny" because they were in Idaho.https://t.co/ko4rL6QM08

Social Media Response To MAGA Hat-Gate
Many feel that Sweeney is doing too little too late.

Others reminded the internet that Sweeney hails from Spokane, Washington, a city that allegedly leans right.
She’s from spokane she knows what she’s doing

Elsewhere, some argued that the actress should not feel forced to speak on her political views. After starring as Cassie Howard in “Euphoria”, the actress appeared in “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” “Voyeurs,” and more. Sweeney most recently received acclaim for her role as real-life NSA leaker Reality Winner in HBO’s “Reality.” Fans feel that the actress should instead be given more time to speak on her successful career.
The story keeps changing, in any case, odd of everyone to keep asking her to explain someone else's choice of hat, or politics.

In the interview, Sweeney additionally addressed two other lingering question marks. The actress once alleged that she felt uncomfortable with her amount of nude scenes in Sam Levinson’s “Euphoria.” Now, Sweeney continues to defend the controversial writer-director.

“If we didn’t feel comfortable with something…we’d all speak up. It’s hard to see someone completely trashed by the public and the media when no one’s actually there.” pic.twitter.com/CYFbh9nb1z

Outside of the Levinson controversies, Sweeney also unwittingly found herself embroiled in a rom-com alleged cheating scandal. Her onscreen love interest in “Anyone But You”, actor Glen Powell, broke up with his longtime girlfriend GiGi Paris amid their once rumored romantic relationship.
Sweeney, however, has finally set the record straight, asserting that they are simply close friends and colleagues. Sweeney is engaged to restauranteur Jonathan Davino. Powell is yet to comment further on the matter at this time.
