Aimee Lou Wood is still processing the emotional and devastating conclusion of The White Lotus season 3. The actress, known for her role as Chelsea, recently joined fellow cast members—including Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Sam Nivola—in a panel discussion moderated by Queer Eye‘s Tan France on Sunday, April 6. The panel offered a deeper look into the season finale and the emotional toll it took on the cast, particularly Wood, whose character Chelsea met a tragic end.

Wood, 31, admitted that the emotional weight of the finale still lingers. “For about two weeks before we shot it, I felt super weird,” she said of the foreboding atmosphere surrounding the final episode. In the shocking conclusion, Chelsea and her boyfriend Rick, played by Walton Goggins, both die in a violent shootout that Rick instigates. Wood expressed that she couldn’t have predicted the lingering sense of unease she felt, even after reading the script beforehand.

“It was so weird,” Wood shared. “But I didn’t expect it to feel like that for such a long time before. And also, Chelsea doesn’t know what’s going to happen to her, but I know. So it’s this odd thing.”

The scene, which featured a chaotic and emotional shootout, was filmed under difficult conditions. Wood recalled how filming the intense sequence took place on “the hottest day ever,” and she praised her co-star Walton Goggins for his physical commitment to the scene. “He had to carry me so many times and it was so hard,” she said. “So how it looked on screen was exactly how it felt for the actors, which was really strange.”

Reflecting on her character’s sudden and brutal death, Wood admitted that the experience has yet to fully sink in. “I think it’s not sunk in,” she said, visibly moved. “There’s a lot in that episode that made me f—— sob. A lot.” She described feeling “achy” in the aftermath, acknowledging the emotional toll that the episode—and its conclusion—had on her. “It’s a lot. And he’s so clever because at the end you want to hold the joy of the triumph and the sunglasses on and all that, but you’re still there like, ‘Eh…’ And so Mike [White] just makes you sit in that really achy place.”

The season 3 finale of The White Lotus was a departure from the usual atmosphere of triumph and relief that often follows a season’s climax. Instead, viewers were left with a sense of discomfort and unresolved tension, underscoring the show’s signature approach to storytelling—forcing audiences to confront uncomfortable emotions and complexities.

Following the episode’s air date, Walton Goggins, who was not present at the panel, shared his thoughts on the dramatic conclusion in a heartfelt Instagram post. Goggins reflected on the love story between Rick and Chelsea, despite their troubled relationship. “It was only ever a love story, hindered by unresolved childhood trauma. We all have them… but can we move past them?” Goggins wrote, offering a perspective on the couple’s complicated journey.

He went on to speak about the broader theme of love and pain, noting the beauty in confronting personal struggles. “In the depths of our despair there is always beauty around us. If we can sit with our pain, just sit with it… not react… not be defined by it… It’s there… the love the world is constantly giving in any given moment is there. Always waiting for us to see it… Trust me I know.”

In his post, Goggins also expressed his gratitude to the show’s creator, Mike White, for his “imagination” and “tender heart,” as well as his appreciation for Wood’s performance. “Thank you for being my partner on this journey I will never forget,” Goggins said, emphasizing the strong bond they developed while working together.

Goggins also took a moment to praise the entire cast and crew of the series. “And every stellar f—— actor in this cast… You’re just incredible to watch,” he wrote, calling out specific actors, including Sam Rockwell, who made a surprise appearance in the fifth episode of the season.
