Alec Mapa, an American comedian, and actor, sits down with CultureQ on Revry to discuss Valentine’s Day as a queer man and the best way to celebrate the day. Though the film, where he plays Marty Wells, A Very Sordid Wedding, is a few years old, he explains that he thinks it’s one of the best ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The film, though a comedy, explores a same-sex wedding in a conservative town in Texas, and Mapa believes it’s a great way to celebrate the holiday because the film features a wedding. And though he agrees weddings don’t always guarantee weddings, he says that there is a lot of cynicism in the world, especially in the LGBTQ+ community, and he believes there is a lot of optimism in weddings and what they represent. Mapa reiterates that weddings, at their core, are two people promising to be there for each other forever, in their best and worst moments. He says there is no better way to celebrate the holiday than watching a movie that celebrates those themes.
