Director David O. Russell’s new film Amsterdam created a craze on Twitter as it packs many celebrity favorites within the film. From iconic actresses like Margot Robbie and Anya Taylor-Joy to Chris Rock and Christian Bale, many people spotted their favorites within the film’s trailer. Even singer Taylor Swift is in the film. But, what is the actual movie about?

Set in the 1930s, the film follows three friends, Bale, Robbie, and John David Washington, as they find the truth behind a murder they are being accused of doing. Other actors are shown throughout the film, like Rami Malek, Mike Myers, Matthias Schoenaerts, and many more. Some are comparing the film to Knives Out, which also had many celebrities within the movie and was centered around a “whodunnit” vibe and plot.

2oth Century Studios described the film as “a fascinating and richly intricate tale that brilliantly weaves historical fact with fiction for a timely, cinematic experience.” It seems the film includes themes of friendship, as Bale’s voiceover within the film states how they would always be there according to a pact made by the three.

Many were excited to see the female actresses in the film, as Margot Robbie and Anya Taylor-Joy often generate a lot of excitement or praise. But, some worried about the director. David O’ Russel has a troubling past, from screaming profanities at Lily Tomlin and has been accused of verbal abuse in the workplace. But, according to a police report, he was also accused of groping his niece.

Some wondered why so many A-list celebrities would join in to participate with a director who has a troubling and abusive history. “People really are just going to promote and celebrate a David O. Russell film as if nothing happened, aren’t they? How disappointing considering so many want to claim they promote and defend victims and reject terrible people,” one person noted.
