Ariana Grande brought her signature glamour to the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, wowing attendees with a striking ensemble inspired by her role as Glinda in Wicked. The 31-year-old singer and actress made a memorable appearance on the red carpet on January 5, stepping out in a pale yellow, empire-waist gown that echoed the magical character she portrays on screen.

The gown, from Hubert de Givenchy’s Spring/Summer 1966 Haute Couture collection, featured a delicate beaded bodice and a flowing, silk skirt. It was purchased from Rita Watnick’s luxury boutique, LILY et Cie. Grande, who has made waves for her Wicked performance as the bubbly Glinda, revealed the inspiration behind her choice during a preshow interview with Variety.

“It’s yellow because, you know, follow the yellow brick road,” Grande said. “And it’s one of Glinda’s favorite colors.” She also shared her excitement about the dress, noting, “This is Givenchy 1966 archive. My stylist, Mimi [Cuttrell], and I found it, and we were so excited.”

According to an archivist at Givenchy, the dress is a piece of history, from an era synonymous with fashion icon Audrey Hepburn. “The dress is pale yellow silk with a hand-beaded bodice,” the archivist explained. “It’s from the epic Givenchy Haute Couture era, a time marked by one of the most important unions between a designer and muse.”

To complete the look, Grande accessorized with white opera gloves, pale yellow pointed-toe pumps, and a sparkling choker and earrings. Her blonde hair was styled in a sleek ponytail with short bangs, adding to the ethereal vibe of her outfit.

Grande, who received her first Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Glinda, is in the running for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. She faces tough competition from fellow nominees Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez). Grande’s nomination marks a significant career milestone, and she has expressed how surreal it feels to be recognized by her peers.

In a December interview with People, Grande shared her joy at learning of her nomination, especially since her Wicked co-star, Cynthia Erivo, also received a nod. “It was so surreal. We called each other right away,” Grande said. “We were just crying together and screaming. We sent each other flowers immediately. I’m so proud of her and of us together.”

Grande and Erivo’s friendship has been a highlight throughout their promotional tour for Wicked, which premiered in November 2024. At the Academy Women’s Luncheon, Grande spoke about how the two were deeply moved by the recognition, adding, “To see it be recognized is just so—the weight is more than I could have imagined.”

Throughout her press tour for Wicked, Grande has consistently embraced her role as Glinda, with her fashion choices reflecting the character’s enchanting persona. At the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards on January 3, she wore a custom Louis Vuitton dress with a voluminous bubble skirt, designed to evoke Glinda’s iconic bubble from The Wizard of Oz. Her look was completed with her dark blonde hair styled in soft waves.

Grande was also honored at the Palm Springs event with the Rising Star Award, presented to her by actress Jennifer Coolidge. During her acceptance speech, the star joked about her age, saying, “I’ve been performing since I was a child, so I never thought at the age of 31 I would be hearing the words ‘rising star’ again. So I wanted to thank my two friends: Botox and Juvederm.”

In celebration of her Golden Globe nomination, Grande attended the First-Time Nominees Luncheon in December, donning a vintage Christian Dior by Yves Saint Laurent dress from 1959. The chic champagne-colored midi dress was paired with matching pointed-toe heels. Her mother, who accompanied her to the event, contrasted in an elegant all-black ensemble.

As the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards unfold at The Beverly Hilton, Grande’s performance in Wicked continues to capture the attention of both critics and audiences. Fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winners, with Grande’s first Golden Globe nomination signaling the beginning of what promises to be a successful new chapter in her acting career.

The Golden Globes ceremony, hosted live from Los Angeles, is being broadcast on CBS and Paramount+ for viewers at home, with full coverage available across major news outlets.
