  • Fans flood the comments with nostalgia as Tisdale reminisces about squeezing into her character’s outfits 20 years later.

Two decades after High School Musical premiered on Disney Channel, Ashley Tisdale is marking the milestone the most Sharpay Evans way possible: by reopening the closet.

The actor and entrepreneur celebrated the franchise’s 20th anniversary on Instagram by trying on several of Sharpay’s original costumes, including the blue sequined dress worn during “Bop to the Top.”

The video plays like a private fashion show, with Tisdale strutting through what appears to be a storage space stacked with memorabilia.

“You can take the girl out of East High … but you can’t take the Sharpay out of the girl,” Tisdale wrote over the clip. In the caption, she added, “20 years and two babies later I’m still squeezing into these.”

Tisdale, who starred as the ambitious and unapologetically glamorous Sharpay in High School Musical, also revisited a pink tweed set and another pink ensemble finished with a silver sequined shrug. Fans flooded the comments with nostalgia, praising both the looks and the longevity of the character.

The anniversary arrives as the Disney Channel original continues to hold an outsize place in pop culture.

When the film debuted on Jan. 20, 2006, it drew 7.7 million viewers in its premiere broadcast and quickly became the network’s most commercially successful original movie. Its soundtrack hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and remained on the chart for more than 100 weeks, spawning sequels, a concert tour, merchandise and a later TV series.

The film launched the careers of a young ensemble cast including Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel. Directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega, the movie followed basketball star Troy Bolton and academic standout Gabriella Montez as they challenged social cliques by auditioning for their high school musical.

Other cast members have also been reflecting on the anniversary. Grabeel, who played Sharpay’s twin brother Ryan, has spoken about keeping costumes and props from the films and remains closely connected to his former castmates.
