Aubrey Plaza has made a surprising confession about her involvement in the hit HBO series “The White Lotus.” In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, the 40-year-old actress revealed that she has never watched an episode of the acclaimed series, despite her prominent role in the show. Plaza, known for her roles in *Parks and Recreation* and *Dirty Grandpa*, played the character Harper in Season 2 of “The White Lotus.”
Plaza admitted that her initial attempts to watch the series were thwarted by technical difficulties. “I’m going to,” she said about her plans to eventually view the show. “To be honest, I had trouble opening my HBO Max account when I was trying to watch it originally. I couldn’t figure out the password, and I usually just give up when I can’t figure out the passwords. I just can’t handle things like that.”
The actress humorously added, “I’d love a DVD but they don’t send DVD sets anymore. I ask them every time.” Her struggle with technology underscores a relatable challenge for many, especially when it comes to navigating streaming services.
In “The White Lotus,” Plaza’s character is Harper, an uptight attorney married to Ethan, a wealthy but naive businessman played by Will Sharpe. When asked which character she relates to the most, Plaza pointed to Harper, noting some similarities between her character and her own life. “Probably my White Lotus character,” Plaza said. “I mean in a lot of ways—not in every way. She was a lawyer like my mom, and there were some connections there.”
Plaza also shared insights into how she prepared for her role in the series. She described a blend of psychological and gastronomic immersion into her character’s world. “So much linguine and clams,” she recalled of her diet during filming, adding with a laugh, “They demanded it, in fact, that we eat linguine and clams twice a day. It was some kind of psychological conditioning.”
The hit series is set to return for its third season, which will be set in Thailand. While specific details about the upcoming season are scarce, the new cast includes Walton Goggins, Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Parker Posey, and Natasha Rothwell from Season 1. Goggins, who has taken on a starring role, recently shared with PEOPLE that the cast was deeply involved in filming, describing the experience as bonding and significant.
“I can’t believe that we’re in the middle of it right now, and all of these relationships and all of these friendships are just being cemented with all of these experiences that we’re having,” Goggins said. He also teased that the new season’s script “ran the gamut,” promising that it will resonate deeply with audiences and continue the show’s tradition of impactful storytelling.

Mike White, the creator of “The White Lotus,” has hinted that Season 3 will tackle new themes, building on the foundations of the previous seasons. “Mike [White] himself has said what he’s said about season one and what that represents and what season two represents,” Goggins said. “Season 3, without putting words in his mouth, will represent something very, very, very specific and, for my money, will resonate deeply to a very big audience, and certainly with the fans of what he does.”
The new season of “The White Lotus” is expected to premiere on HBO in 2025. In the meantime, Seasons 1 and 2 are available for streaming on Max.
