Kimmel Lets Kicked Off Valedictorian FINISH SPEECH
A video went viral this week from a high school graduation in Exeter, PA. In the video, the senior class President was giving his valedictorian speech and the faculty and staff at the school were not too happy with it.
Peter Butera, the student giving the speech started it with a few critiques about the student government roles at his school. He went on to say that the workers at the school prevent students from developing as leaders, which led them to, as Jimmy Kimmel puts it, pull a Kanye on him.
“Despite some of the outstanding people in our school, the lack of a real student government combined with the authoritative attitude that a few teachers, administrators and board members have, prevent students from truly developing as leaders. Hopefully this will change,” he said confidently before he continued on only to realize his mic had been cut off.
After a few seconds of Butera looking around, he was removed from the podium and the graduation ceremony went on. Kimmel saw the video and wanted to give the high school valedictorian a chance to finish his speech. This time on television. The speech continued on being uplifting about his hopes of the school being a place for students to grow as leaders and his hopes for his classmates to all grow to be happy and successful.
This is a story of a young man trying to enforce change and make a difference and being shut down for doing what he has every right to do, giving a speech. All my respect goes to Kimmel for giving this kid a platform to finish his speech and to Butera himself for not settling. What do you guys think? Was it messed up for the school to kick him off stage? Let us know in the comments or at @whatstrending on Twitter!
