Summary:

  • Bob Dylan surprises fans with Patreon subscription series featuring lectures, stories, and monologues, sparking controversy over authorship.

  • Content includes AI-voiced monologues as historical figures, a letter from Mark Twain, and a short story.

  • The project, tied to Dylan’s fascination with American history, has drawn criticism for possible AI use and authorship ambiguity.

Bob Dylan has added another unexpected chapter to his career: a Patreon page.

The 84-year-old launched the subscription series on March 29, 2026, promoting it through his Instagram. Called “Lectures From the Grave,” the page describes itself as “a living archive of lectures from the grave, letters never sent, and original short stories curated by Bob Dylan,” available for $5 a month. That word “curated” has raised eyebrows, as the page stops short of claiming Dylan authored any of the material.

Current posts include three audio monologues voiced as former Vice President Aaron Burr, Wild West folk hero Wild Bill Hickok, and Confederate outlaw Frank James, along with a fictional letter from Mark Twain to silent film star Rudolph Valentino and a short story titled “Bull Rider.” Several pieces are published under pen names, and the audio recordings appear to use AI-generated voices.

The launch was not formally announced through Dylan’s official channels, and no clarification has been provided about how the material is produced. Representatives for Dylan have not publicly commented.

The project fits Dylan’s longstanding obsession with American mythology and historical figures, themes that have run through his songwriting for decades.

But the apparent use of AI has drawn pointed reactions, with critics noting the gap between the Nobel Prize-winning writer’s literary legacy and the quality of the content on offer.

The Patreon has drawn over 1,700 members since launch. Dylan is currently on the U.S. leg of his Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour, with Bay Area dates scheduled for this summer.
