The Bored Ape Yacht Club, also known as BAYC for short, was hacked once again and lost an estimation of 360,000 dollars worth of NFTs, or 200 ETH. According to Fortune, the BAYC Discord server was hacked when the community manager’s Discord account was compromised, allowing for the scammer to post phishing links. A Twitter user @NFTherder first spotted the issue, “tracing the stolen funds to four separate wallets worth an estimated 145 ETH (around $260,000), according to the report.”

This is the second time this has happened to Yuga Labs in two months. In April, a hacker was able to steal a user’s funds, losing over 2.8 million dollars of NFTs. Now, some are concerned that NFT hacks are becoming increasingly worse. Earlier this month, actor Seth Green had his NFTs stolen, which ended up putting his new animated show on hold as the NFTs were meant to be featured in the show.

Some believe that Discord might be the issue. Gordon Goner, a founder of BAYC, says that this reoccurring issue points toward Discord not being a good website to keep NFTs safe, as he wrote on Twitter “Discord isn’t working for web3 communities. We need a better platform that puts security first.” But, some believe it is a matter of how safe you’re being on the Internet, as one person said that Discord is not the problem and that this could happen on any platform.

“All the project owners out there – please focus on discord security and audit. Protect your holders and also your brand,” one person Tweeted. On Twitter, BAYC addressed the situation writing “Our Discord servers were briefly exploited today. The team caught and addressed it quickly. About 200 ETH worth of NFTs appear to have been impacted. We are still investigating.” They also reminded people that “We do not offer surprise mints or giveaways.”
