No, this is not clickbait. The rumors are true: Bridgerton heartthrob, Simon, will not be apart of the show’s season 2 storyline. Page’s character, Simon, was the handsome, troubled type who fell hopelessly in love his best friend’s sister, while trouble ensued around them.

The Announcement

This Friday, Netflix announced in a post on the show’s Instagram that the actor will not be returning. The letter, signed by Lady Whistledown, read,

“Dearest Readers, While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we did adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Dapne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear. Yours Truly, Lady Whistledown.”

Regé-Jean Page followed up with a post himself with various photos from the filming of the first season and caption that read, “The ride of a life time. It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family – not just on screen, but off screen too. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans – it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing.”

Do not mind us over here sobbing. Simon’s character was not only gorgeous, but was involved in the classic enemies-to-lovers archetype that is nearly impossible to not obsess over.

Twitter Cannot Let Go

Kalen Allen shared what we were all thinking, writing, “There better be a real good reason for Regé-Jean not coming back to Bridgerton! This news really ruined my morning!”

This Twitter user shared this video of a girl crying with the caption, “After finding out that Rege-Jean Page isn’t returning for season 2.” We could not agree more.

This user tweeted out, “My reaction after hearing that the Duke won’t be coming back for the season 2 of #Bridgerton.

The Book Was Better

If you are disappointed by this news, you might not have read the book series. According to Bridgerton book fans on Twitter, they knew this was coming. Apparently, in the book, each section is dedicated to a different sibling’s love story. I know, we did not see that one coming either.

This Twitter user let us in the show’s secret comparing it to the iconic scene in Mean Girls.

Vanessa called us out tweeting, “You’ve gotta be dumb not to understand simon and daphne are side characters after season 1, I mean, the show is called BRIDGERTON, even if you didn’t read the books you will know it’s about all the siblings, each one having their own season, not just daphne and simon.” This is awkward…

While we must say we are sad we will not graced by Regé-Jean Page’s presence on ‘Bridgerton,’ we are excited to see what Lady Whistledown has in store for Season 2, and where we will see Page onscreen next.
