Creators Are Posting Thirst Traps to Staff Your Local Polling Place

Summary:

  • Poll worker recruitment has shifted to social media, with creators directing followers to sign up links.

  • The idea originated with Alex Cascio, with Elizabeth Booker Houston also involved, leading to widespread adoption.

  • While the exact number of sign-ups is unclear, reports suggest thousands have volunteered through the initiative.

Poll worker recruitment usually looks like a flyer at the library. This week it looks like a creator in good lighting telling you the job pays and that the sign-up link is in her bio.

The format traces back to Alex Cascio, who used a Power the Polls creator link to funnel her followers into election staffing. Elizabeth Booker Houston is being credited alongside her. Within days, other creators had copied the template wholesale, right down to the “comment POLL WORKER and I’ll send you the link” call to action.

The numbers moving around are creator-reported, not official. Posts circulating this week cite roughly 13,000 sign-ups in the first two days and about 17,000 nationwide. Power the Polls has not published its own figure for the trend.
