Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk vowed to enter a cage fight with fellow tech tycoon Mark Zuckerberg. The cause of the fight is over their respective companies’ social media platforms. In the fall of 2022, Musk famously purchased Jack Dorsey’s Twitter, which he recently rebranded into X.

After a slew of controversial business decisions from Musk, users began dropping from the platform by the droves. In response, Zuckerberg, who is the CEO of Meta (the company owns Facebook and Instagram) dropped a competitor text-based social media app in July 2023, Threads.

In response to Threads, Musk filed a copyright lawsuit over the apps’ similar features, and invited Zuckerberg to take him in a fight. As of today, however, Musk is claiming he may need surgery in order to fight the Meta CEO.

The Conversation

Musk claims that the fight will be streamed on X.

Both Musk and Zuckerberg have access to X and Threads. However, Zuckerberg is only responding to Musk’s claims via his own company’s app, Threads. The CEO continues to dish out criticisms against the ethos of both Musk and Threads.

Zuckerberg continued the conversation by saying that he was well trained and ready to fight, and that Musk was the only reason for the delay. Musk is yet to respond to this claim directly.

Reactions

The seemingly trivial fight between two of tech’s most powerful players is sparking creative humor on both of their social media platforms. Musk himself has long shared memes to his own social media accounts, and now critics of the X CEO are using them against him.

Others joked that Musk could also flee the U.S. for his native South Africa to evade the fight.

Others could not get over the absurdity of the whole situation. Both men have been married and have children. Zuckerberg is 39 years old while Musk is 52 years old.

Elsewhere, others continue to cast votes on who they think will win the fight. Many are siding with Zuckerberg. Prior to the online conversation surrounding the proposed fight, Zuckerberg frequently spoke out about his personal fitness habits and cage fighting training. He continues to assert that regardless of whether the fight happens or not, he will continue his training.

Zuckerberg has proposed for the fight to take place on August 26. A time and place for the fight are yet to be named, nor has a charity for donations been confirmed.
