HBO has confirmed that production for the highly anticipated third season of “Euphoria,” the Emmy-winning series, will commence in January 2025. All principal cast members are slated to return, marking the continuation of the acclaimed drama.
Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, expressed excitement about the upcoming season. “I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on ‘Euphoria’ in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of ‘Euphoria’ to life for the fans,” she stated.
The announcement marks a significant development following delays that affected the production timeline. Originally scheduled earlier, the series faced setbacks due to industry-wide challenges such as the writers’ and actors’ strike in 2023, scheduling conflicts for the cast, and creator Sam Levinson’s meticulous approach to crafting the storyline independently.
Levinson had presented ambitious ideas for Season 3, including a five-year time jump and intriguing character arcs for Rue, portrayed by Zendaya, such as working as a private investigator or as a pregnancy surrogate. HBO opted to postpone production until the creative direction aligned with the series’ established themes and quality.
The ensemble cast of “Euphoria” features Zendaya alongside Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Storm Reid, Alexa Demie, and Eric Dane. The series faced the tragic loss of Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, in July 2023, while some cast members like Barbie Ferreira have announced their departure from the show.
Zendaya serves as an executive producer alongside Levinson, who also directs and executive produces the series. Other executive producers include Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, Will Greenfield, Ashley Levinson, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, and Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein. Kevin Turen, an executive producer, passed away in November 2023.
“Euphoria” has not only garnered strong viewership but also established itself as a prominent awards contender for HBO, accumulating 25 Emmy nominations and securing nine wins to date. Zendaya notably won two Emmys for Best Actress in a Drama, with Colman Domingo also earning recognition for Best Guest Actor in a Drama.
