TikTok’s fandoms have a new way to rank their favorites, and it comes with a Mother, a Daughter and a Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity trend asks people to assign beloved characters to religious roles using a shared template, then post the results for everyone to argue about.
The format goes well past the original three. Templates add slots for Jesus, Adam and Eve, Lucifer, Cain and Abel, Judas, God and the Twelve Apostles, which means every fandom gets to decide who’s the savior, who’s the betrayer, and who never stood a chance.
The earliest known example came from TikToker @wh0isth1sg1rl on Oct. 4 and passed 144,000 views in its first 10 days, according to Know Your Meme, which added the trend to its database on Oct. 14 and is still researching it. Since then, fans have been filling in versions for anime, games, TV shows and their own original characters.
The appeal is simple. Templates like this cost almost nothing to make and say a lot about the person posting. Picking a Holy Spirit takes five seconds. Defending it in the comments can take all night.
That’s the same engine behind years of “tag yourself” grids and alignment charts. The roles change, but the point stays the same. Show people your taste and let them tell you you’re wrong.
