Sabrina Carpenter has rapidly gained online attention this year for her improvised outros for her hit song “Nonsense.” Typically, the end of the song is improvised based on the city or event she is playing a concert at, including the recent Jingle Ball. Between the singer’s packed schedule from opening Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” in Brazil, accepting an award at the 2023 Variety Hitmaker’s event, playing the Jingle Ball, and ruffling feathers within the Catholic Church, Carpenter was spotted grabbing dinner with Oscar nominated actor Barry Keoghan.

Keoghan was famously nominated for best supporting actor at last year’s Academy Awards for his role in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” after also notably featuring in Marvel’s “Eternals” and Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk.” The actor shares a child with his ex girlfriend Alyson Kierans, with whom he split amicably in July. Carpenter has been reportedly single throughout this year, following her alleged relationship with Shawn Mendes this past spring.

The actor most recently starred in Emerald Fennell’s dark academic thriller “Saltburn” alongside Jacob Elordi.  While not much is known about Keoghan’s dinner with Carpenter, fans of the singer are already factoring him into her “Nonsense” outros.

Nonsensegate

Weeks ago, Carpenter was spotted at a “Saltburn” screening in New York City. Fans of both the actor and the singer remain unsure whether the romance rumors are true, or if their dinner was intended for a film or music video collaboration. The pairing feels surprising to some X users, as they appear to come from different circles within the entertainment industry.

Regardless of why the actor and the singer are spending time together, fans are holding out hope that Carpenter will address the rumors in a humorous way. Recently, a priest in Brooklyn, New York was stripped of his administrative duties at Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Annunciation of the B.V.M. for allowing Carpenter and her team to shoot a portion of her “Feather” music video in the parish. The music video, which dropped on Halloween, features Carpenter killing the men in the video who do her wrong or bother her. The darkly comical concept culminates with Carpenter donning a black minidress and veil, attending their funeral smiling.

In an interview with Variety, the singer addressed the controversy that shrouded the Brooklyn, New York Archdiocese for weeks. Carpenter said “we got approval in advance. And Jesus was a carpenter.” Now, fans are holding out hope for another humorous interview or “Nonsense” outro addressing her recent outing with Keoghan.

Some continue to react to one another’s idea pitches for a “Nonsense” x Barry Keoghan moment.

Neither Keoghan nor Carpenter have confirmed or denied if the dinner they were spotted at in Los Angeles was a date. Regardless, this has the internet thinking nonsense.
