Summary:

  • Former Nickelodeon actor Tylor Chase declined police offers of temporary shelter and basic necessities.

  • Chase’s mother requested a GoFundMe be taken down, stating he needed medical care and refused treatment.

  • Fellow actor Shaun Weiss offered help securing a bed at a detox facility for Chase’s treatment.

This week, that collision played out around Tylor Chase, the former Nickelodeon actor who played Martin Qwerly on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. Chase, now 36, went viral after videos surfaced showing him unhoused in Riverside, California. The attention sparked concern, fundraising attempts and public offers of help. According to police, Chase has declined them all.

A spokesperson for the Riverside Police Department told TMZ on Monday that officers have interacted with Chase multiple times and have repeatedly offered assistance, including temporary shelter and basic necessities. Each time, Chase declined. Police added that he has been cooperative and cordial during encounters and appears aware of the videos circulating online about his situation.

Back in September, a TikTok user using the handle @lethallalli posted a photo of Chase sitting on the street, identifying him as the former Nickelodeon actor. The post gained traction, and a GoFundMe was created shortly after, claiming Chase was “living on the streets.”

That fundraiser did not last long. Screenshots later shared by the same TikTok user showed what appeared to be messages from Chase’s mother asking that the GoFundMe be taken down. In the exchange, she allegedly wrote that Chase needed medical care, not money, and that he refused treatment. She added that he could not manage funds or medications on his own.

TMZ later confirmed the GoFundMe had been removed.

As the clips spread across TikTok and X, help offers followed. The most visible came from Shaun Weiss, the former child star known for playing Greg Goldberg in The Mighty Ducks.

In a video posted to Instagram and reported by Variety, Weiss said he and friends had secured a bed for Chase at a detox facility, along with an option for long-term treatment.

“All we need to do now is find him,” Weiss said, asking anyone who encounters Chase in person to contact him directly.

Weiss, who has been open about his own recovery journey, framed the offer with urgency and empathy, especially with the holidays approaching.

But the verified reporting paints a more complicated picture. Police say help has been offered. A fundraiser was removed at the family’s request. A fellow actor has stepped forward with resources. And still, Chase has chosen not to accept assistance.
