Friends And Fans Share Tributes To Matthew Perry After Sudden Death

Actor Matthew Perry passed away on Saturday at the age of 54 in what appeared to be an incident of drowning in his hot tub. The autopsy has been completed, and a toxicology report is pending. Now, fans and friends of the late actor share their best memories of him, his best performances on screen, and his legacy of creating a sober living facility.

Perry starred as Chandler Bing on the hit television show “Friends” alongside Courtney Cox, Jennifer Anniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc. The television show is widely regarded as a cultural phenomenon. Fans continue to visit the apartment building where the show is set in the West Village of Manhattan, New York, offering their condolences.

Perry released a book titled “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir” in 2022, in which he discussed the mental health and addiction challenges he experienced throughout his life.  He previously wrote that he would like to be remembered primarily for his legacy of giving back to his community and creating a sober living facility in Malibu, California.

Tributes From Friends

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow reflected on her brief relationship turned lasting friendship with the late actor, and her pride in his legacy of “Friends” and helping others.

Singer Charlie Puth sang the Rembrandt’s “I’ll Be There For You”, which was the theme song of “Friends,” in tribute to Perry at his concert this weekend.

Actress Yvette Nicole Brown reflected upon her friendship with the late actor, calling his death “devastating.”

HBO Max has updated their system to include an in memoriam message to Perry displayed before each episode of ‘Friends” plays.

Viewers continue to share compilations of their favorite scenes of the actor, whose character was known for his sarcastic sense of humor and endearing awkwardness.

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) paused posting about the ongoing union strike to share a message for Perry.

Others vow to dress up as the actor’s pink bunny costume from a previous “Friends” Halloween episode.

Tennis star Billie Jean King recounted Perry’s longtime support of the sport.

Whoopi Goldberg recounted a previous Perry appearance on “The View” last year.

Actress Sofia Milos recounted a positive experience working alongside Perry when she portrayed a girlfriend of his character on “Friends.”

The cast of “Friends” is yet to issue a statement on Perry’s passing, but the group had remained close friends until the actor’s death. Memorial arrangements are to be announced.
