Before the Grammys announces their first award, many are excited and tuning in to see what some might consider the main event: the red carpet arrivals. With the anticipation of seeing artists like Doja Cat and Lady Gaga, many love to see who is coming and what they’re wearing. But, unfortunately, not all of our favorite nominated stars can attend. With COVID-19 causing the award show from February to now in April, this did not align with everyone’s schedule. Others, however, did not give a specific reason why they will not be attending.

Ariana Grande

Earlier today, the beloved singer Ariana Grande announced she would not be attending the 2022 award show. This came as a disappointment to many fans, as Grande was nominated for three different awards. However, she was incredibly gracious as always, as she wrote “have a beautiful time, I am celebrating all of you there today.”

Kanye West

Kanye West, who is nominated 5 times this year, was originally in a lineup to perform at the Grammys this year but was later removed. This occurred after his increasingly alarming behavior towards his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and comedian Pete Davidson, as well as this year’s host Trevor Noah. This was confirmed by Variety who was told by a rep. Over the last few months, we have watched the custody situation between Kardashian and West has worsened and West’s unpredictable behavior on social media became more and more concerning. But, according to a rep, West agreed to stop making posts and not make public outings, “for the sake of the kids.”

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez will also not attend the Grammys, igniting some to wonder if she is choosing not to attend because of Justin Bieber. Some immediately disproved this and noted that she was probably not attending due to being in the middle of filming her Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.

Miranda Lambert

Up for two Grammys, Miranda Lambert says she is “slammed” with work, which she told ABC Audio. Unfortunately, tonight’s show happens to land  “right in the middle of pre-production for her co-headlining Bandwagon Tour with Little Big Town plus prep for her new Palomino album.”

Miley Cyrus

Unfortunately, Miley Cyrus came down with COVID-19, which means she was unable to attend. Although fans were worried, she tells them that she is “feeling fine.” Although her causal behavior alarmed some when it comes to infection with the virus, many were certain she was attempting to make sure her fans did not feel guilty for her being infected.

Jason Aldean

Nominated with Carrie Underwood for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, he says he is staying home because the awards are “too long.” He does say that it was “cool to be nominated.” Although we will miss these artists, nobody who has arrived at the Grammys so far has yet to disappoint, which almost makes it up for their absence.
