Reception has been strong, with reviewers largely praising the finale as a major step up from Season 2’s abrupt, strike-shortened ending. Collider called the season “one of the Game of Thrones franchise’s best.” GamesRadar+ called it “a Game of Thrones-worthy season finale.”
Not every thread landed clean. Aemond’s storyline stuck at Harrenhal is still drawing complaints, and X is split between fans mourning specific character arcs and fans thrilled the show finally went for the throat.
What’s not split is the timeline pain. Season 4 is being eyed for 2028, and that’s the wait to see how this ends. Our only lifeline in between is “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” Season 2, expected early 2027, which is Dunk and Egg, not dragons and war rooms, but it’s something.
