It certainly feels as if a tide is turning in the conversation on gun control after the recent Florida school shooting. No longer are Americans just holding back as they watch the government not give a damn about them as human beings as they collect funds from the NRA. Teenagers who survived the shooting are speaking out on the news and social media and letting gun rights advocates know that they will not be silenced. And maybe their message just happens to be working. Or at least it definitely worked on one person. A man with a second amendment tattoo on his arms destroyed his own AR-15 to show his seriousness in trying to advocate sensible gun control.
The man’s name is Scott-Dani Pappalardo, and in the now viral video, subtitled “My drop in a very large bucket
#oneless,” he holds his gun and addresses the camera regarding is AR-15, saying —A lot of people have said to me, ‘Well, what do you need to own a weapon like that for? Its only purpose is to kill. And I’ll be honest, it’s a lot of fun to shoot. I’m not a hunter, I’ve never killed anything with it except a bunch of targets. I remember after Sandy Hook happened, I said to my wife I’d gladly give this gun up if it would save the life of just one child. That’s five years ago now, and since then over 400 people have been shot in over 200 school shootings. So I guess my words were just empty words in the spur of the moment. Now, here we are, 17 more lives lost, so when do we change? When do we make laws that say maybe a weapon like this isn’t acceptable in today’s society? And there’s a lot of blame people can put on desensitizing with video games and the Internet, bad parenting, mental illness, but ultimately it’s a gun like this one that takes away the lives.”
Scott continued on as he discussed how the shooters in the mass shootings were all mass gun owners, and he discussed how he could sell his gun, but the idea of the gun being used in another shooting is terrible. Thus, Scott ended the video by destroying his gun on screen. If the current conversation could get someone with a 2nd Amendment tattoo to destroy a weapon he has had for years for the common good, maybe there is some hope after all.
