The following day, Wednesday, Aug. 21, Carpenter offered a glimpse into the music video for “Taste.” The short clip showed her in a dramatic scene where she is seen wielding a knife while searching for a lover and his mistress, played by Jenna Ortega of “Scream” fame. The snippet ends with Carpenter applying lipstick using the knife’s blade as a mirror, before abruptly cutting to the title card of the song.

Carpenter first announced her new album on June 3 via Instagram. “MY NEW ALBUM IS COMING OUT AUGUST 23rd!!!! 💋,” she declared in the post, which also featured the album’s cover art. The image depicts Carpenter with her long blonde hair cascading down her back and a dark red kiss mark on her left shoulder, set against a deep blue background. In her announcement, she described the project as “quite special” to her and expressed her hope that it would resonate with her fans.

Following the album announcement, Carpenter revealed plans for her 2024 “Short ‘n’ Sweet” tour. The North American tour will begin on Monday, Sept. 23, in Columbus, Ohio, and includes 29 performances across the continent. The tour aims to support the new album and connect with fans on a more personal level.

In addition to her album and tour preparations, Carpenter has been busy with other musical projects. In the same month as her album announcement, she released a music video for her single “Please Please Please,” produced by Jack Antonoff. The track follows the success of her earlier single, “Espresso,” which she performed live for the first time at Coachella 2024. She also showcased “Espresso” during her debut on “Saturday Night Live” on May 18, where she performed alongside her hits “Feather” and “Nonsense.”

Carpenter has been open about the impact of her single “Espresso.” In a June 17 interview with Rolling Stone, she reflected on the song’s success, noting her mother’s reaction and her own sense of fulfillment. “My mom has been like, ‘Do you feel crazy right now?’” Carpenter said. “I just love that people get my sense of humor.”

“Espresso” achieved significant success, becoming Carpenter’s first top-five hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 and her first No. 1 in the U.K., Ireland, and Australia. Following this success, Carpenter collaborated with Van Leeuwen to create an espresso-flavored ice cream, a nod to her hit single.

As Carpenter prepares for the release of “Short n’ Sweet,” her fans are eagerly anticipating the album, excited by the snippets and previews she has shared. With her dynamic approach to music and engaging social media presence, Carpenter continues to build on her growing popularity in the music industry.
