Youtube star Jaclyn Hill, recently posted to her Instagram sharing her story of almost being kidnapped by two men. Although I immediately believed her, the internet was not as convinced. Soon controversy broke out with many viewers not buying her story, questioning if Hill was lying about the attempted kidnapping.

Jaclyn Hill is a 30-year-old makeup artist, entrepreneur, and popular beauty influencer who has created a career through her social media platforms. She gained a huge following on Youtube posting beauty content including, makeup tutorials, reviews, and more. Today, she has amassed 5.74 million subscribers to her channel with 377 videos uploaded.

In 2019, she expanded her brand beyond the social media world and started her makeup company called Jaclyn Cosmetics. Since then, she has received criticism surrounding its sanitation and product quality… specifically for her lipsticks being old – which she denied and then retracted.

After receiving backlash, Hill deleted all her social media accounts as well as her brand’s website (which has since been re-posted). She also promised full refunds to customers and issued an apology on July 23, 2019, after finally coming clean.

Additionally, Hill has an extensive past of allegedly lying. One report being how she lied about her highlighters being sold out after an unsuccessful first launch. And although fibbing to make your product seem more desirable than it is not unheard of, it does portray a pattern of lying to save face — as anyone in the public eye would do.

She was also previously accused of lying about the formula used in her collaboration with the makeup brand, Morphe. So, it is safe to say Hill is not new to the world of scandal. As Hill has a tumultuous past with a lack of truth-telling, it isn’t a shock that viewers are not believing her newest story from this past weekend.

On Sunday the 11th, Hill tweeted about her almost abduction story. She tweeted, “2 guys were literally trying to physically pull me into their car while I was alone outside. Thank you Jesus that I’m okay but that was so traumatizing!”

One user, tweets back his doubt to Hill, saying how “there is no way two men attempted to abduct you, a celebrity, and you didn’t involve law enforcement.”

Although many agree online, the truth is you do not need to file a police report or come forward at all if you experienced abuse or harassment of any kind. Following years of the #metoo movement, it was a shock to see the internet forget all about the positivity they preach. Would it be quite surprising if a celebrity did not file a police report after such a public incident, yes, but if they didn’t — it doesn’t mean they were lying either.

After receiving many doubtful comments, Hill took to Instagram addressing the uncertainties viewers have of her story. And, she did not look happy.

While some viewers are suspicious of her lying due to her past untruthful events others are questioning if there was a deeper motive because Hill also coincidentally recently received a lot of backlash for her bronzer release.

One user tweets, “Something about Jaclyn Hill saying she was almost kidnapped after a huge PR mess from her bronzer release is certainly fishy.

On top of it all, Hill just released her new collection called Haute Tropics 3 days after her almost-abduction story causing even more people to think it is a marketing ploy.

It is still up in the air whether Jaclyn Hill was lying about her attempted kidnapping as she is constantly surrounded with controversy and part-time cancellation. With that said, the internet knows no more than anyone else and interpretations are open to anybody. However, as someone who supports women coming forward no matter who they are or what they have done — I plan on giving her the benefit of the doubt.
