Jennifer Lawrence is gearing up for an intriguing new project with A24 in “Why Don’t You Love Me?” a film adaptation of Paul B. Rainey’s graphic novel. The novel, a sci-fi comedy released in 2023 through Drawn & Quarterly, explores the lives of an unhappy married couple who discover unexpected realities and alternatives in their seemingly mundane existence.

The adaptation will be penned by Robert Funke, creator of the series “On Becoming a God in Central Florida”. Funke’s writing credits include a mix of drama and comedy, making him a suitable choice for translating Rainey’s unique narrative into a compelling screenplay.

Jennifer Lawrence isn’t just taking on an acting role in this project; she’s also stepping into a producer’s shoes alongside Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver. This production company was behind the Sony comedy “No Hard Feelings” and is now poised to bring Rainey’s vision to life on the big screen. Lawrence’s collaboration with A24 extends beyond “Why Don’t You Love Me?”; they recently announced another joint venture—a murder mystery series based on the Real Housewives reality franchise for Apple TV+.

The partnership between Lawrence and A24 has already seen success with their previous collaboration on “Causeway”, an Oscar-nominated drama where Lawrence portrayed a military veteran reintegrating into civilian life. Lawrence’s nuanced performances have earned her widespread acclaim and numerous accolades, including four Academy Award nominations and a win for Best Actress for her role in “Silver Linings Playbook” in 2013.

Joining Lawrence and Funke in bringing “Why Don’t You Love Me?” to fruition are notable names in the industry. Filmmaker Ari Aster, known for his unsettling yet critically acclaimed work in “Midsommar” and “Hereditary”, will produce alongside Lars Knudsen and Emily Hildner of Square Peg. Rainey himself will serve as an executive producer, ensuring the film stays true to the spirit of his original graphic novel.

Funke is represented by CAA, Mosaic, and Lichter Grossman, underscoring his strong industry support. Rainey and his graphic novel are represented by Gersh, while Excellent Cadaver is represented by LBI, showcasing the diverse talents and resources coming together for this ambitious project.

As anticipation builds for “Why Don’t You Love Me?,” fans of Jennifer Lawrence and aficionados of sci-fi comedy can look forward to seeing how this talented ensemble brings Rainey’s imaginative world to life on the big screen. With Lawrence’s proven track record of delivering memorable performances and A24’s reputation for fostering daring and thought-provoking cinema, this adaptation promises to be a captivating addition to both their portfolios and the broader cinematic landscape.
