Johnny Depp will still get paid millions for the upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts 3, even after being asked to step down. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Depp will receive his full salary from the movie. Depp will be paid at least $10 million even though he only filmed one scene since the beginning of production on September 20th in London.
The actor has a pay or play contract meaning he gets paid whether or not the film is made and even if he’s not in the film.
Depp is obviously upset about resigning. He posted on Instagram how thankful he was for the opportunity and how he will get through it. “Firstly, I’d like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty. I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days. Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request.”
After years of false allegations, it has slowly been costing him his career.
“Finally, I wish to say this. My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false,” he continued. “My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.”

Soon after Warner Bros. stated the following, “Johnny Depp will depart the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise. We thank Johnny for his work on the films to date. ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ is currently in production, and the role of Gellert Grindelwald will be recast. The film will debut in theaters worldwide in the summer of 2022.”

Fans began a petition to bring Depp back into the film and play the role of Gellert Grindelwald.
Why was Depp fired?
Depp was recently forced to resign days after losing a libel case, it being on a UK newspaper The Sun calling him a “wife beater.” Depp sued the paper back in 2018 after printing that he was abusive to ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were married in 2015 and only lasted a year before she filed for divorce. Heard accused Depp of domestic abuse, which he denied.
The judge stated that The Sun had proof that the allegations were true. Depp then said that Fantastic Beasts screenwriter and producer, J.K. Rowling has seen evidence to prove them wrong.
Depp’s and Heard’s lawsuits have been going back and forth throughout the years. But after losing the trial Warner Bros. asked Depp to resign from the role as Gellert Grindelwald, which he respected and agreed to do so.
Fans are on Depp’s side and can’t believe that Heard has been lying about accusations. There’s a hashtag that began “#JusticeForJohnnyDepp.” Fans want Depp to get past this and find justice. They don’t think it’s fair for him to lose his career for “false allegations” that Heard makes.

The actor who will be replacing Depp for the role of Gellert Grindelwald is Mads Mikkelsen.

“Doctor Strange” actor, Mikkelsen, is the top choice to play the role, according to Deadline. In order to do so, he would need to get into character as soon as possible.
Fans don’t want anyone else other than Depp playing the role of Gellert Grindelwald.

There has been lots of controversy about Mikkelsen replacing Depp. Some love the idea while others don’t. Fans have the idea of seeing both actors in the film together.

Colin Farrell who played the role of Gellert Grindelwald in the first movie was unable to return to the sequel since he’s committed to the Batman film. Fantastic Beasts 2 director David Yates is directing the third movie as well. The cast of Fantastic Beasts 3 include Jude Law, Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Jessica Williams and Dan Fogler.
With everything going on with recasting and backlash Warner Bros. are dealing with, there are a few things to know about the movie. The initial release date for Fantastic Beasts 3 is November 21 2021. There’s not much details yet about the movies plot beside that it will follow up on the event from Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. A side from that we know that it will include Credence reveal as Aurelius Dumbledore and his decision in joining Gellert Grindelwald in his war against humanity.
