Taylor Swift left her mark on Kansas City, Missouri when she stopped there along “The Eras Tour.” While in the city, Swift unveiled the music video for her “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” track “I Can See You,” which starred Taylor Lautner and Joey King. King starred in another of Swift’s music videos for “Mean” more than a decade ago when she was a child.

Lautner and Swift were in a relationship in the early 2010s, which inspired the singer to write her wistful track “Back To December.” The pair have since reunited as friends, with Lautner’s wife, Taylor Dome-Lautner, joining him in a visit to Kansas City for the big night. In the weeks following the big night, one NFL star could feel the romance in the air. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce admitted that he attempted to hand Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.

The friendship bracelets have become a big part of Swift’s tour experiences, and refer to a lyric from her song “You’re On Your Own Kid,” in which she sings “make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it.” Kelce was following “Eras” etiquette and tried to get creative, but his message seems to have gotten lost in translation. The football star revealed his unique bracelet design on the “New Heights” podcast, which he hosts alongside his brother Jason Kelce, a center for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Social Media Reactions

Many joked that the singer might not have known who Kelce was. Swift’s alleged dating history is predominantly composed of fellow musicians and actors, and she has never publicly dated a professional athlete. Swift has been spotted at several sporting events throughout her career in the public eye, and sang the national anthem at an MLB game in 2008.

Other fans encouraged Swift to get in touch with Kelce. In early 2023, Swift reportedly ended her six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. In the months following, she was spotted with the controversial frontman of the 1975, Matty Healy. The pair’s alleged relationship ruffled feathers among fans, primarily due to Healy’s history of insensitive comments made under the guise of performance art.

Fans of both Swift and the Chiefs are still hoping that the pair have the chance to meet.

Others imagined what a Swift song about Kelce would sound like.

Kelce has not commented further on his friendship bracelet, and neither has Swift. The singer soon heads to California for her final leg of U.S. shows on “The Eras Tour.”
