Katy Perry has officially been called out by an American Idol contestant for “mom shaming.” The judge made a joke about one hopeful contestant that isn’t landing well with many audiences.
American Idol, which is now in it’s 31st season of the singing competition, has seen a mass amount of contestants and judges alike with much love for the reinstatement of the series.
However, on the March 5th episode that aired, not everyone is loving this comment. 25-year-old contestant Sara Beth came hopeful as ever to potentially make it through to Hollywood in the latest auditions for the panel of judges including Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and of course Katy Perry.
During her time with the trio, many of the judges were enamored with her youthful appearance – claiming the singer appeared to look like a 16-year-old. However, the contestant laughed and corrected the judges with “You guys are my favorite. I have three kids.”
Sara Beth’s comment on motherhood shocked the judges and caused Perry to slowly get up with her shocked face and melt onto the judges desk. Sara claimed “If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out.”
In a now viral TikTok, the singer went on to exclaim how embarrassing this moment was, especially on live TV.
The contestant ended up making it through to the next round thanks to the judges votes, but many have poured out their comments and love to Sara Beth.
The star went on to say “I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mom shaming is super lame. I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom and it’s hard enough to be a woman.”
Sara also went out of her way to shout out all of the other moms who are taking care of and loving their families as well.
Others have reflected on some of the other comments that Katy made during the audition claiming that she has been too harsh on contestants, including Sara Beth.
There has been no official response from Katy Perry as of this time.
