Rick Caruso lost his chance at being the mayor of LA after losing to Karen Bass.

Bass is projected to win 70% of the county vote and will serve as the first woman and second black mayor of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Times. Her lead was nearly 50,000 votes ahead of her opponent.

Caruso, who spent more than $100 million on his run and received support from people like Chris Pratt, Katy Perry and even Kris Jenner, received backlash online for his stance against abortion.

Even prominent social media personalities posted their thoughts online.

Caruso did not have the best track record on reproductive rights and made donations to anti-abortion politicians in the past as well. Yet, his representatives told ABC 7 ““Rick has always been pro-choice and has always supported Roe v Wade”.

Chris Pratt supported the billionaire in an Instagram Story earlier this month writing that Caruso was the guy for our city.” He also claimed LA was in a “gradual decline into pain and utter disarray.”

Many others like Elon Musk and Gwyneth Paltrow supported Caruso in his run. People online mentioned that many people who supported Caruso either had wealth or some sort of social status.

“We never stopped believing that local government can and should be a force for good,” Rick Caruso stated.

”There will be more to come from the movement we created.”
