Rapper Lil Nas X was arrested early Thursday morning after police responded to reports of a man walking on Ventura Boulevard in underwear and cowboy boots. Authorities say he was transported to a hospital for a possible overdose.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed officers were dispatched around 5:30 a.m. local time to the 11000 block of Ventura Boulevard. In a statement shared with XXL, police said the man, later identified as Lil Nas X, “charged” at officers and was taken into custody on suspicion of battery of a police officer. He was then hospitalized for evaluation.

Unverified video obtained by TMZ shows the Grammy-winning artist walking shirtless down the street while speaking incoherently and dancing. At one point, he tells the person filming not to miss an upcoming party. The clip has since circulated widely on social media.

The 25-year-old performer, born Montero Lamar Hill, rose to global fame in 2019 with his breakout single “Old Town Road,” which spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Known for his boundary-pushing visuals and unapologetic persona, Lil Nas X has remained a polarizing figure in pop culture. His most recent album, Montero, featured the controversial hit “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

Fans have been awaiting his next project, Dreamboy, expected later this year. On Instagram, he has teased snippets of new music in recent weeks.

As of Thursday afternoon, representatives for Lil Nas X have not publicly commented on his arrest or condition.
