Singer-songwriter and digital creator Madison Beer is opening up about a series of traumatic events from her teenage years. Beer’s memoir is due for release soon, and the singer took the mic on the popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast alongside host Alex Cooper to speak on it this week ahead of its publication.

Music executive Scooter Braun signed Beer to Island Records after label mate Justin Bieber reposted a video of her singing Etta James’ “At Last”.  She proceeded to release a number of pop hits, notably “Good In Goodbye,” “Reckless,” and others. The latter has soundtracked over 73,000 videos on TikTok. The content of such videos ranges from makeup tutorials to dating horror stories.

The Background of Madison Beer

Beer found herself in the spotlight abruptly at 13. Beer was exposed to fame in the early 2010s on loosely regulated social media platforms, which ultimately led to a traumatic situation she discussed with Cooper.

At 14 years old, Beer had nude videos of herself leaked on the internet. The singer explained that she only sent the videos to one boy she was talking to from her hometown in Long Island, New York. Beer recalled trusting this person with the content, as she had “known him for her entire life” and they were the same age.

The singer did not name the boy in question, or the girl she alleges actually posted the clip online. She went on to explain the ensuing public shaming she endured, and how it impacted her mental health. The video clip from “Call Her Daddy” is amassing thousands of views across social media.

Beer also backtracked to explain the chain of events that led up to the incident. She discussed the sexual assault she experienced as a child at the hands of a person close to her family. Additionally, she revealed she was essentially blackmailed into speaking about her abuse in a public setting.

Internet Reactions

Beer discussed the internet’s treatment of her initial nude videos leak, and her gratitude for finding a community of survivors of sexual assault to heal with. This time around, Beer is receiving an outpouring of support from social media.

The leaks resulted in Beer being sexualized at an incredibly young age. She revealed that it took years of therapy to build a healthy relationship with herself, and that she is still actively working through her attachment issues. Many are calling for the internet to apologize to the singer, recognizing that she was slut shamed over the leaks.

Beer has not named or pressed charges against her alleged abusers at this time. The singer’s memoir, “The Half Of It”, hits shelves on April 25.
