Hulu has officially greenlit a limited series on Amanda Knox with star Margaret Qualley set to play the lead role.

The series does not have a title as it is still in the works. The new installment to the streaming giant will be produced from 20th Television and The Littlefield Company (Fargo, Handmaid’s Tale) and has been on a fast development track.

Hulu describes the eight-episode series as “based on the true story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.”

Knox became a sensation after the intense media scrutiny for years as she and then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were arrested after Knox’s rommate was found murdered in their Italy apartment.

The two were convicted in 2009 but had the ruling overturned in 2011. the two were found guilty in a retrial before being exonerated in 2015 by Italy’s Supreme Court of Cassation, the highest court in the country.

Knox’s life and the murder case have previously been the subject of or inspiration for a (factually challenged) 2011 Lifetime movie, a 2014 English film titled The Face of an Angel and a 2016 feature documentary. Knox also accused Matt Damon and writer-director Tom McCarthy of “ripping off” her story in the 2021 movie Stillwater.
