On April 21st, The Telegraph reported that the Duchess of Sussex sent a letter to King Charles III over concerns from the 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. The outlet stated Markle would not be attending coronation due to this letter and Harry would go instead to support his father.

In this letter, Meghan alleged that “several conversations’ took place with husband Prince Harry and a specific royal family member regarding “how dark” the first newborn child’s skin would be. Many alleged that this was indeed soon to be King Charles III.

While many royal family members will be in attendance for the coronation, Markle will be skipping the prestigious day. Both Buckingham Palace and representatives of the royal couple previously confirmed that Prince Harry would be attending the coronation without Meghan. And now the Duchess of Sussex is speaking out regarding the latest allegations of why she won’t be attending the event.

According to a representative from the Sussexes, the royals are claiming that a letter is not the reason Markle will be absent.

The statement to NBC News reads “The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago. […] Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous.” The spokesperson went on to add “We encourage tabloid media and various other royal correspondents to stop exhausting the circus that they alone are creating.

The Royal family also previously noted that Markle would be staying behind to watch the kids in California. Many online believe this is an excuse for Markle to be absent from the event, but son Archie’s 4th birthday does fall on the same day as the royal event.

Looking back interview with Oprah Winfrey back in 2021, Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying the family was “saddened” to hear the challenges Harry and Meghan faced.

The statement read “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning […] While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

Prince William previously commented on this interview back in March of 2021 claiming that the royals are “very much not a racist family.” The king’s coronation will see Harry with the rest of the royal family since the debut of the tell-all memoir, “Spare”.

Many were unsure if both Harry and Megan would participate in the major event for the family after the announcement that the couple would “step back” as senior royals. Many online expressed their thoughts after seeing the series “Harry and Meghan” on Netflix in which the couple also discussed the topic of unconscious bias.

The royal family has declined to comment on these headlines.
