Former First Lady Melania Trump recently shared a video promoting her upcoming book, Melania, where she discusses women’s “individual freedom” and notably references the pro-abortion phrase “my body, my choice.” The video, released on October 2, follows an exclusive excerpt published by The Guardian that reveals Trump’s strong pro-abortion stance.

In the video, Trump emphasizes the importance of individual freedom as a fundamental principle that she aims to protect. “There is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess from birth,” she states, before posing a critical question: “What does ‘my body, my choice’ really mean?”

In the book excerpt, Trump elaborates on her views, arguing for women’s autonomy in deciding whether to have children, free from government intervention or societal pressure. “It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children,” she writes. Furthermore, she asserts, “Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?”

Trump’s commentary on abortion makes it clear that she has consistently supported the right to choose, asserting that there is “no room for negotiation” on the issue. She also contends that there should not be a stigma associated with abortion, advocating for a more open discussion surrounding the topic.

Regarding the phrase “my body, my choice,” Trump views it as a slogan applicable to both sides of the debate. She stresses that women should have the freedom to choose whether to terminate a pregnancy or carry it to term. This perspective stands in contrast to the actions of her husband, former President Donald Trump, who nominated several conservative justices to the Supreme Court, ultimately leading to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that recognized a constitutional right to abortion.

The reactions to Melania Trump’s video on social media platform X were mixed. While some Republicans expressed hope of seeing her return as First Lady should her husband win the 2024 election, others were taken aback by the discrepancy between her views and those of her husband. One user remarked, “I do agree with you on pro-choice, but this is not what your husband has said about state rights and protecting women and their doctors. You need to get out of your abusive relationship, Melania, and stop being used as a tool.”

Another user, identifying as a Catholic woman, expressed surprise at her pro-abortion views but indicated that it would not affect their voting decisions regarding Donald Trump. “Maybe I missed something; I’m hoping I misread!” the user stated.

Liberal influencer @JoJoFromJerz criticized Trump, stating, “Your husband overturned Roe and said there should be punishment for women who have abortions. You never said a damn word.” This sentiment was echoed by numerous others who noted her silence on the issue during her husband’s presidency.

In addition to her views on abortion, Melania Trump used the promotion of her book to challenge the official narrative surrounding the first assassination attempt against her husband. She indicated skepticism about the details that have emerged regarding that incident, further adding to the public interest in her upcoming publication.
