Miley Cyrus’ backyard sessions are back–and now, they will be available on a platform that Cyrus knows all too well. The sessions from her upcoming album, Endless Summer Vacation, will be available for streaming on Disney+ on March 10. The sessions for her older albums have historically set a precedence for the style of each album era, and gave way to some of Cyrus’ most iconic covers, including her godmother Dolly Parton’s hit “Jolene.”

Cyrus’ first single from the upcoming album, “Flowers”, has already achieved massive success, breaking Spotify’s most streamed song in its first week of all time. She joins Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Rihanna, SZA, and Shakira in reaching one billion streams in 2023 alone. The track has also spent six weeks on the Billboard global 200 charts, a career first for Cyrus. The song has become a self love anthem for millions, and the source of countless Tiktok trends.

The song and accompanying music video contain countless specific details, which listeners have theorized are referencing her marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth. The pair began their relationship after meeting on the set of The Last Song, and subsequently married and divorced. Media attention at the time of their separation and leading up to their 2020 final divorce was largely negative towards Cyrus. Fans of the song have applauded Cyrus for taking back her side of the narrative and sharing her healing journey through her music.

Fans are already looking forward to the looks Cyrus will wear during her backyard sessions, and have also begun casting votes on what covers could potentially be included.

Her iconic “Jolene” cover, which she also frequently performs during live concerts, has some wondering if the queen of country, Dolly Parton, herself will make an appearance in the 2023 backyard sessions.

Despite Cyrus hanging up her iconic blonde Hannah Montana wig several years ago, fans have hope that some of her early career songs from the Disney Channel original show may be included in the broadcast. Rumors even circulated on Twitter that there may even be a special reunion episode airing on Disney+, which would serve as a sequel to the 2009 Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Others hope that Cyrus will cover a song by fellow Disney Channel alum Selena Gomez, who starred in Wizards of Waverly Place, Princess Protection Program, and Another Cinderella Story.

Given the massive success of her first single from Endless Summer Vacation and the several high profile collaborations she has under her belt, fans have hope that Cyrus will sweep the pop categories of the 2024 Grammys.

Even Cyrus’ original record label, Disney’s Hollywood Records, showed support for the upcoming Disney+ feature. Cyrus has since signed with RCA.

Regardless of the additional songs and surprise duets that could be added to the backyard sessions setlist, fans are mostly excited that Cyrus is taking a nostalgic return to her Disney roots.

The Disney+ original special, Miley Cyrus: Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions), drops on the streaming platform at 1 p.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT. No matter what the sessions hold, one thing rings true–Cyrus has always found her way back home.
