Yet another Starbucks opened in Los Angeles this weekend, but this one is “dumb”–literally. Explained as a fair-use art project, “Dumb Starbucks” is serving free “dumb vanilla lattes,” “dumb caramel macchiatos”…you get the point. My only concern is the lack of a health safety letter grade, because in Los Angeles, we don’t even humor the idea of entering a “B” restaurant (even the sketchiest taco trucks have an “A”). Maybe this is the work of L.A.’s own Intelligentsia Coffee? Starbucks responded to the store in an e-mail to AP stating: “We are evaluating next steps and while we appreciate the humor, they cannot use our name, which is a protected trademark.”Â
I ventured over to Los Feliz to see this with my own eyes. You too can wait an hour or more for what most people are calling “horrible” dumb coffee.
