Hulu has renewed its hit mystery comedy series “Only Murders in the Building” for a fifth season, What’s Trending has confirmed. The show, which has been well-received by both critics and audiences, will continue with another set of 10 episodes, maintaining its familiar format. The renewal comes just over a week after the premiere of Season 4, which debuted on August 27 and is set to run until October 29.
In the upcoming season, the beloved main trio—Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez—embark on a trip to Los Angeles. They are invited by a movie studio interested in adapting their popular podcast into a film. Meanwhile, they also investigate the murder of Sazz Pataki, portrayed by Jane Lynch. Pataki is the former stunt double of Martin’s character, adding an intriguing twist to their murder-solving escapades.
The cast for Season 4 includes a star-studded lineup: Meryl Streep, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Molly Shannon. This diverse ensemble continues to bring fresh energy to the series, contributing to its ongoing success.
Martin co-created “Only Murders in the Building” with John Hoffman, who also serves as showrunner. Both Martin and Hoffman, along with Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman, and Jess Rosenthal, are executive producers of the show. 20th Television produces the series.
The show has garnered acclaim from critics and viewers alike since its debut. The third season, which aired earlier this year, received 21 Emmy nominations, including nods for Martin, Short, and Gomez in the Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series categories. The series has consistently achieved high ratings, with all four seasons averaging a 97% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In her review of Season 4 for Variety, Alison Herman praised the show’s continued evolution. “In keeping with the show’s rising profile (Meryl Streep is just a part of the cast now!) and escalating absurdity, this latest batch of suspects have even bigger personalities and more famous faces than the co-op committee members we’re used to,” Herman wrote.
The renewal of “Only Murders in the Building” for a fifth season reinforces the series’ status as a critical and commercial success. Fans can look forward to more of the show’s signature blend of mystery, comedy, and star-studded guest appearances in the upcoming episodes.
