Paul Rudd, who is 52, has recently been announced as People’s 2021 Sexiest Man Alive, though he is apparently grappling with understanding and accepting it. In an interview with People, which is both funny and charming, he jokes that he learned about his nomination through an email, which he reports he had to read twice.

Paul Rudd, probably most known for his work in Clueless or in the Marvel movie Ant-Man, jokes that he knows that some people are going to be surprised or confused by this announcement, noting that “This is not false humility. There are so many people that should get this before me.” However, since he is the magazine’s 2021 choice for Sexiest Man Alive, he says that he wants to lean into it and jokes about making business cards.

However, though he does joke that he does not want to be humble about it and says he is going to “own it,” it does seem that humbleness is who Rudd is at the core. Despite his upcoming Apple TV+ show with Will Ferrel entitled Shrink Next Door and participating in the beloved movie franchise with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, he says that he thinks of himself as a father and a husband and enjoys hanging out with his family when he is not at work. His wife, who he has been married to for 18 years, was the first person he told when he received the news. He says that after she giggled for a bit, she replied that People got it right, which he notes was “very sweet. She was probably not telling the truth, but what’s she going to say.”

Many fans, and friends too, celebrated with Rudd and believed that he was the right choice, no matter what Rudd or anyone else thought. There seemed to be a little disagreement, especially between Marvel fans who believed Chris Evans should have been nominated instead, but there are always disagreements when it comes to this type of thing.
